Thanks for the virus software suggestions. I spent several hours yesterday and today uninstalling the old software and installing superAntiSpyware, AVG virus protection and malewarebytes on both my PC and laptop. Most things are working but I can't get my hotmail email account on IE on my PC - works on the laptop. The screen is just blank, no error message to debug. I can get email on foxfire, but can't send any messages. Also can't post on this site on my PC - hope it works when I do it on my laptop.
Now I need another recommendation. I'm thinking about asking for an MP3 player for xmas. I know nothing about these, but I thought it might be nice to have one to play audible books and podcasts when I have to walk by myself.
I finished reading the library book Dream Called Time by S. L. Viehl. Sci/Fi - very good.

I recommend avast! Free. malwarebytes development team is sometimes behind the times. superAntiSpyware is junk - I have had trojans creep thru using it. And AVG is, well, weak in features. I recommend avast! because it is a strong suite of services, and does not use as many resources on your computer.
Be sure to uninstall all of the antivirus programmes before installing another. Again, having so many could jack things up quite a bit. If you're willing to use a third party uninstaller, I recommend Revo Uninstaller, because it goes deep within your system to remove ALL files associated with that programme.
I also recommend STRONGLY against using Internet Explorer. It is weak and can compromise your system security. Firefox is currently the safest browser out there.
What happens when you try to post on this site on your PC? Please install Firefox first in order to see if that solves the issue.
As for email programmes, I have to suggest simply using Gmail's browser-based client (gmail.com).
MP3 players... I have to say iPod.
Good luck!

It does everything it has to - you can load MP3/MP3 podcasts on it by drag and drop, it has an FM radio, it has a little screen that tells you what is playing, it records to an MP3 file, lasts about 6 hours, and its 2 in by 2in square.
The only bad thing about it is that the Phillips software sucks. You can avoid using it, though.
I used to use Avast! and I found it slow & it asked me for things every 15 minutes. YMMV.
