car is paid off

November 27th, 2005 at 03:39 am

walked with mom for 55 min

I've had sinus headaches almost everyday this week and have another one today. So tired of it. We're supposed to have snow tonight and tomorrow, maybe after it blows through my headaches will go with it.

Went to the grocery store and spent $36.69 I try to check my receipt afterwards before leaving. I can't watch the register that closely. Lately it's wrong so often it's a major pain in the butt. I had to go the customer service to get $9.98 refunded. There were buy one get one free on 2 items I bought that didn't ring up right, they charged me the full price. Grocery sales go from Wednesday to Tuesday so the fact that it's Saturday and this item is still ringing up wrong, tells me the grocery store just doesn't care if they get it right or not. It's hard to believe no one in the state noticed this before today. Since the cash register is driven by computers and I imagine the sales prices are input in one place and downloaded to all the stores, it's hard to believe they couldn't know this is wrong 3 days into the sale. Just makes you feel ripped off even if you do get your money back.

Total spent so far this month = $431.58

On a more positive note I made my last car payment today. WOOHOO! I'm SO glad not to have that monthly bill even if it was 0% interest and I made money by not paying cash upfront. I just hated that bill every month, it felt like I was paying extra for the car since I'd been driving it for so long. This will free up $344 a month for savings.

BTW my car is a 2003 Saturn ION and it's been a really good car. Gets almost 30 miles per gallon and I haven't had any problems with it at all. It's only needed regular maintenance and I had to replace one of the tires when I ran over a nail. And I had one recall notice on a part that they replaced in about 45 minutes. That's it, very happy with it.

Sold another book at half.com for $3

Finished re-reading my book Seduced By Moonlight by Laurell K. Hamilton. Romancy/Fairies. Excellent book. This is probably the third time I've reread this book. I love this author and this series. I like her vampire series too, but I like this series about a modern american fairy princess the best.

Woo Hoo! I remember how awesome I felt when I *finally* made the last payment on my car!! I waltzed into the bank, asked the teller to tell me the final balance on my loan account, made out the check, got the receipt showing it paid in full. Then I waltzed right over to the customer service desk and asked how I could get my title, since I had JUsT paid my car off! About 15 minutes later I left with the title to my car in my hot little hands. For the next WEEK just about anybody I met got to hear all about how I had *finally* paid my car off - even the guy at the Taco Bell drive through window. Hee! Smile
Even better though than getting the title, was when I called the insurance company and told them to raise my deductiable to $1000. When I told the guy on the phone that I had just paid my car off, he told me congrats, and then he said that I should have a loan paper burning party! I thought that was pretty cute (and sweet.) Smile
BTW - I have a 97' Honda Civic that was bought new and was paid off June 04' - has ~88k miles and is running great. I hope to have it for at least another 4 or more years (paid enough for it in interest - yikes!).

Congratulations to you for paying off your car. I know how great that feels.

    Laura,
We have a 1990 Honda Civic with 430,000km on it and we have NEVER had anything major go wrong with. Dh is going to drive it into the ground...actually, I think it'll rust away before it needs a repair!

CONGRATULATIONS! I know how wonderful that feeling is. Really makes you appreciate your car even when all the tempting new models roll out...

I'm another Civic owner. Smile I have a 2000 that recently passed 50,000 miles. I've had no problems with it except for needing to replace/remove rusted parts, and that's not the car's fault--I live in a snowy area, and that means SALT. Then there were mice that moved in and chewed up some wires, but other than that, it's just needed basic maintenance. I want to own it for at least a few more years--like Laura indicated, I need to make up for the interest I paid on it...good for you for getting that interest-free loan!

Congrats! I paid mine off last year, then 6 months later it didn't pass inspection, so we took it off the road for awhile and are currently a one vehicle family. Considering I was only driving it about 2000 miles a year, it really isn't worth the cost to keep it on the road.
